Hideaway Pizza introduces ‘Sweet Southern Heat’ to cap first year in Natural State

Oct. 05, 2017

Hideaway Pizza today announced the winners of a contest to name a new specialty pizza made in collaboration with local Chef Donnie Ferneau marking the pizzeria’s first year in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Tulsa-based pizza company also confirmed plans to open its second Arkansas pizzeria, located at 1170 S. Amity Rd. in Conway, Ark., at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13.

Hideaway Pizza announced in June it was working with Chef Ferneau to design an original pizza honoring its new home at 5103 N. Warden Rd. in North Little Rock, the company’s 17th restaurant location, and first outside of Oklahoma, which opened on Oct. 10, 2016.

North Little Rock residents Anita Singleton and Debra Roberts, and more than 200 others, offered potential names for the Arkansas pizza in the contest hosted on the company’s Facebook page with hopes of winning a $600 ‘Hideaway Pizza for a Year’ gift card as the grand prize. Names suggested by Singleton and Roberts were combined for the winning name: Sweet Southern Heat.

Chef Ferneau’s original pizza creation includes Hideaway BBQ sauce w/ red pepper flakes, cheddar, mozzarella, bacon, fried chicken, jalapeno, red onion and red bell pepper, with a honey-Sriracha drizzle. Sweet Southern Heat is currently available in Arkansas only.

Because of their equal contribution, both winners will receive the full grand prize award. The runner-up name was Yard Bird, inspired by the name suggested by North Little Rock resident Michael Brown. Brown will receive a $100 Hideaway Pizza gift card.

Hideaway Pizza guests will have a chance to win free meals and a variety of prizes by spinning a prize wheel inside the restaurant Oct. 9-15.
